The Lord birthed the Homeless Outreach ministry in June of 2009. It started through the prayers and ministry of John Jacob, Brian Christopherson, and Janette Brooks. We started with a team going to Ballard to minister with bag lunches and supplies such as socks, sleeping bags, and gloves. The homeless were so grateful for the help and many were encouraged to come to Westgate’s New Heart Healing and Recovery Program at Philadelphia Church in Ballard and at Westgate Chapel.
The teams expanded to Edmonds and Lake City:
Chef John’s Lake City Team make and deliver sandwiches to the Lake City shelter.
Chef John also provides lunch for the homeless on Thursdays during Food and Clothing Bank hours. If you would like to volunteer, contact Janette at the church office. (425)775-2776
Kay Ellis leads a team that visits 3 Edmonds hotels that house several homeless families. The Women’s Issues group purchased 15 gifts during the Christmas Season, wrapped them and made cookies for each family. The hotel managers put out boxes of non-perishables from our Food Bank in their lobby so these families could have food during the week of Christmas. Kay is now bringing one of the families to church and the mom has attended the Women’s Issues group… In February 2014, Valentine’s Day became an additional time to bless these families with homemade decorated cookies. As Kay became more and more accepted, a Bible Study was started in the hotel!
As these teams go out our priorities in each of these outreaches is to pray with the homeless and share the gospel message of hope.
